MEMBERS of Spirit of Monmouth Running Club enjoyed another busy and successful week, with achievements ranging from road races and fell running to parkrun success and club training sessions.

The weekend saw Jeremy Creasey represent the club at the Chippenham Half Marathon, finishing in one hour 59.40, while Nick Sloper took on the challenging Mynyddoedd Du Fell Race in the Black Mountains.

The demanding fell race featured steep climbs, difficult navigation and poor visibility, with Nick covering almost 10 miles and accumulating over 3,700 feet of ascent in tough mountain conditions.

The club's regular Tuesday coaching session attracted a strong turnout, with members taking part in a speed-focused fartlek workout around Chippenham Fields.

Social running groups also met during the week, continuing the club's tradition of combining training with friendship and encouragement.

In the weekly training leaderboards, Martin Blakebrough topped the distance chart with 36.1 miles, closely followed by Keith Penny on 35.4 miles.

Sloper led the elevation standings after a week packed with hill and mountain running.

The club was represented at Saturday parkruns across the region, including Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye, Cwmbran, Lydney, Mallards Pike and Newport.

At Newport Riverfront, Tom Chinnick equalled his parkrun best with an outstanding 17.47, narrowly missing second place.

At Mallards Pike, Renske Bouwens finished as second female and 12th overall in 23.45, while Martin Blakebrough achieved a new 22.37 PB at Ross-on-Wye.

Matthew Visser ran an impressive 19.48 at Cwmbran, while Katie Adams finished as first female at Chippenham Playing Fields in Monmouth in a time of 20.31, with fellow Spirit Vicky Roberts just 19 seconds behind finishing as second female.

Another notable achievement came from Fay Visser, who broke the 30-minute barrier for the first time at Cwmbran, recording a PB 29.50.

Spirit of Monmouth RC welcomes runners of all abilities, with members supporting one another whether chasing personal bests, completing races or simply enjoying time on the trails and roads.
