IT was a case of four seasons in one race, as runners braved the full range of British weather in Sunday's Kymin Dash, organised by Spirit of Monmouth RC.

Rain squalls and wind mingled with bright sunny interludes as more than 150 runners took on the testing seven-mile hill, woodland, field and riverside route.

Wyndham Turner of Abergavenny-based fell club Mynydd Du took the victory in 42 minutes 52 seconds by 27 seconds from George Anthony.

Third in 43.58 was Dan George, followed by Ashley Middlewick of Parc Bryyn Bach (44.25) and William Morris of Hereford Couriers (45.33).

Fastest over-40 man in sixth was Iestyn Rhodes of Pontypool Runners in 46.32, with James Atkinson seventh 49 seconds back

Forest of Dean AC's Katie Waller in eighth was first woman home in 48.40, beating Spirit's Matthew Visser into ninth by 10 seconds, with Fairwater Runners' Rae Elias rounding out the top 10 seven seconds back.

First over-50 man in 14th was Witney Runners' Fraser Howard, who pipped Spirit's Tom Chinnick by seven seconds, the latter fourth fastest over-40.

Catherine Treble of Westbury Harriers was fastest over-40 female in 50.58, pipping Spirit's Katie Adams to the age win and second woman by 23 seconds.

Jenny Farrow of Builth RC took the women's over-50 title and fourth fastest woman (55.48), with Newent Runners' Paul Dowling landing the men's over-60 class (57.02), 37 seconds ahead of Monmouth Rock Up and Run's David Fisk.

Liz Sims of Caerleon AC powered to the women's over-60 class (58.20), while FoDAC evergreen Brian Griffin was over-70s men's winner (1.07.26), 1.58 ahead of women's over-70 winner Nicola Hall.

And Gary Gunner of Croft Ambrey AC made it home in 1.12.44 as fastest over-80.

Pontypool took the men's team crown from MonRoss Trailblazers, the locals represented by Calum McLeish (51.09), Nick Cook (51.58), Andrew Wright (54.58) and Tony Davies (58.00), and Caerleon secured the women's crown from Westbury Harriers.

The first-place finishers were awarded fruit hampers donated by Waitrose and exquisitely wrapped by Lottie at The Bloom Room.

All age trophies, plus the King and Queen of the Hill titles, were sponsored by LUDUS Gym Monmouth, with Wyndham Turner (9.58) and Katie Waller (11.09) also claiming the Kymin summit honours.

Race bibs were sponsored by Blestium Financial Services, while Ready Set Go Timing provided the results, St John’s Ambulance medical support and Monmouth Guides ran the water stations.

Spirit’s Vicky Roberts, Michael Visser, Sarah Heath and Ben Saunders did a checking run before marshalling and the Forestry Commission cleared a fallen tree from the track.

Also out helping were the mile marker team of Sian Burns, Sara Moore and Cathy Fletcher, while Louise Hartree and her husband Steve put up motivational signs alongside Ben and Chris Baber.

Other marshals included Renske Bouwens, Andrew Hillis, Marina Wright, Brian Evans, Kirk Hill, Barry Burns and Fay Visser, and members of Rock up and Run and parkrun, and course referee was Rod Jones.

Previous winner Huw Evans helped out marshalling, while Julie Gee and Louise tail ran and Andy Clifton and his band The Fishing Trip lifted spirits and encouraged the runners en route.

Thanks also go to Haberdashers’ School Monmouth for hosting the event, with members of The Kymin Dash’s chosen charity Bridges Flood Appeal also starting the race and helping present trophies, participants bringing tinned and dried food for Monmouth foodbank, and donations given to Monmouth Girl Guides, The Forestry Commission and The National Trust.

Also on Sunday was the London Landmarks Half Marathon, where Madeleine Newcomb ran past Big Ben, the London Eye, Nelson's Column, St Pauls Cathedral and the Tower of London, finishing in two hours 30.

Jeremy Creasey was in Chippenham running at the first in the 5 series of Lightning Bolt 10k races into a strong headwind, crossing in 49.22 for 17th out of 34 in his age, while Nick Sloper ran the Tewkesbury Half, again with headwinds, finishing in 1.52.58 for 356th out of 873.
