NINETEEN-year-old Niall Farr is a European Tae Kwon-Do champion after winning gold at Davos in Switzerland.
The teenager – who has been training at his dad’s club, Monmouth, Usk and Abergavenny Tae Kwon-Do, since he was four– took first place in Team Sparring, as well as a bronze medal for Individual Sparring at the European Championships.
Niall, who lives in Mitchell Troy, described the chance to compete at the international martial arts competition as an amazing opportunity.
“I’ve been training for a while with the Welsh team and to get the opportunity to represent my country and club in Switzerland was amazing. Then to come home with two medals was a perfect end to the weekend,” he said.
His father Anthony Farr – a World Master in Tae Kwon-Do and a former World Champion in hand destruction – was delighted by his success, saying: “I’m extremely proud of Niall’s achievement. It was a tough competition and the first time he’d competed for Wales abroad.
“To get not one, but two medals, is a fantastic result. I and everyone at Monmouth, Usk and Abergavenny Tae Kwon-Do are absolutely thrilled that he and the Welsh team did so well.”
The national team is led by Wales Grand Master, Gianni Peros, who said: “Niall had really impressed in training and as our most improved team member, he certainly deserved his place in the competition.”
