MONMOUTH Cricket Club will play their cricket in South East Wales Cricket League (SEWCL) Division Two next season after their promotion was confirmed last week.

Despite the club finishing third last season in Division Three, Monmouth received a letter last week informing the club that second-placed side Sully Centurions had failed to meet youth criteria for the second division.

The decision means Monmouth are promoted into Division Two, alongside Crumlin CC who finished first.

A letter to Monmouth Cricket Club from Sohail Rauf, secretary of the South East Wales Cricket League, said the decision was made after an executive meeting.

He wrote: “I am pleased to inform you that Monmouth CC will be promoted to the SEWCL Division Two.

“We wish you all the best in the new division and well done for all your hard work with regards to being compliant in all aspects.”

The promotion will be celebrated at Monmouth Cricket Club’s awards evening, which takes place this Saturday (25th November) at the Shire Hall.
