MONMOUTH Cricket Club have launched pre-season indoor training, with more than 20 senior players flocking to the opening nets at Monmouth Leisure Centre last Sunday.

There was also a healthy turn-out for the women’s training under club coach Gareth Jones.

With the season less than three months away, indoor training continues this Sunday (February 8); women – 10am-11am, seniors – 11am-1pm.

Promoted Monmouth 1st Xl, sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, will be competing in South-East Wales Division 6 in 2026.

Inspirational skipper Pete Keay led them to the Division 7 title last summer with14 wins from 18 matches, and just one defeat.

Matt Jones cracked 736 runs at an average 81.78, including two centuries, while Ben Pilot also weighed in with 533 runs at 53.30, including one century.

All-rounder Pilot also bagged 29 league wickets at 17.59, with Scotsman Keay snapping up 25 at 21.08 and vice-skipper Gareth Jones 24 at 15.75.

Monmouth’s 2nds will again be competing in Division 12 after Neil Saunders led them to third in 2025.

Wicketkeeper Andrew Dobbie scored 380 runs at 29.23, while Jon Roberts hit 245 at 81.67.

Sam Brennan grabbed 22 wickets at 16.95, while evergreen Kieran Shaw claimed 19 at 15.05.

Monmouth 3rds under Chris Powles’ leadership finished a respectable 10th out of 16 in Division 15.

Paul Mallen fired 268 runs at 38.29, while Monty Clarke took 12 wickets and Charlie Mallen 10.

Monmouth’s midweek team, under Ben McCluskey’s captaincy, finished runners-up to Cinderford St John’s in the Forest Hundred final.

The women's thriving softball and hardball teams will also be competing again in the South Wales women’s leagues.

And the club will also be running their mixed junior section, including the national Allstars and Dynamos programme, and U9 to U15 groups.
