THE Cricketer has named Haberdashers’ Monmouth School among its ‘Top 100 Schools’, reinforcing their reputation as one of the leading co-educational UK boarding schools for sport, academic balance and all-round development.

This national recognition highlights the exceptional breadth of cricketing opportunities available to pupils at the school.

With more than 130 fixtures each year, five grass squares, state-of-the art indoor nets and coaching from former international and county professionals, such as Old Monmothian England cap Steve James, they offer one of the most comprehensive cricket programmes in UK independent education.

A school spokesperson said: “For families seeking a boarding school where sport sits alongside strong academic and pastoral support, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School provides an environment where pupils can thrive.

“Cricket is deeply rooted in the life of the school, and many boys and girls now progress into county and regional pathways thanks to close links with Glamorgan County Cricket Club and local community clubs.

“Being included in the Top 100 is a source of great pride for the school.

“It reflects the commitment of pupils who train throughout the year, the staff who support them and the long-standing cricketing tradition that continues to shape life here.”

Director of Cricket, Callum Bassett-Jones, said the latest accolade was a powerful endorsement of the school’s approach.

“To be included in the guide year after year is hugely rewarding. It speaks to the sustained effort and passion of everyone involved in cricket at Monmouth.

“We are very lucky to have many teachers and coaches here who are passionate about instilling a love of the game and developing our pupils, and this recognition reaffirms that we’re doing exactly that.”

The girls’ cricket club programme mirrors the boys' programme in structure and ambition.

With block fixtures, national cup entries, specialist coaching sessions and more than 14 girls gaining representative honours this year, cricket is flourishing across the age groups.
