THE Haberdashers’ Monmouth School’s U18 Netball Team made an exceptional start to their season after being crowned Bowl winners at the House of Sport tournament in Cardiff.
The event brought together several strong schools and colleges from across the South Wales region, giving their newly formed squad the perfect opportunity to test themselves in competitive conditions.
The team began the day in a challenging pool, facing tough opponents, including Coleg y Cymoedd who they beat 6-2 and Gower College who they were pipped by 8-6.
Despite displaying impressive determination and solid teamwork, the girls were also edged out 9-7 by Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin, which placed them into the Bowl competition for the afternoon stages, offering a fresh chance to regroup and fight back.
Once the knockout rounds began, the squad showed exactly what they were capable of.
With renewed confidence and a clear sense of purpose, they delivered dominant performances in both the quarter-final and semi-final, beating Ysgol Bro Dinefwr 18-0 and Treorchy Comprehensive 15-5.
Their attacking play became increasingly sharp, while their defensive pressure proved difficult for opponents to break through.
These strong performances propelled them into the final, where they would once again meet Bro Myddin, a team who had narrowly beaten them earlier in the day.
Motivated by their previous loss and fuelled by their outstanding teamwork, the girls rose to the occasion in a fast-paced and closely contested final.
And demonstrating resilience, strategic play, and excellent communication on court, they secured a well-deserved 8-6 victory to claim the Bowl.
This achievement marks a hugely positive beginning for this year’s U18 Netball squad, especially considering it was their first competition together as a new team.
Their success at the House of Sport highlights both their potential as players and their strong team spirit.
