A TOWN sports body which has just celebrated a £23,000 fundraised pavilion upgrade is appealing for help to restore the building after the devastating floods.
Monmouth Sports Association – which hosts several clubs in the town, including the football, rugby and cricket clubs, plus bowls, tennis, netball, and parkrun – needs £12,000 to get the community hub back on its feet after being deluged by the Monnow.
Appeal organiser Rachel Simpson posted: "This wasn’t just a building. It was where children grew in confidence. Where adults stayed active, connected and supported.
"Where families stood together, week after week, cheering, volunteering, belonging.
"And now? Doors locked. Fixtures cancelled. Hundreds of people of all ages with nowhere to train, play or meet.
"If you can donate anything at all, it will go directly towards restoring facilities, replacing equipment, and getting this community back on its feet.
“And if you can’t donate, sharing the appeal truly helps more than most people realise.
“Monmouth deserves its heartbeat back. And with enough support, it can be rebuilt
"Thank you to everyone who has helped so far from the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of a community trying to rise again."
The association added: ""Our newly refurbished clubhouse is ruined. Bar gone. Flooring gone. Photos, trophies, memories, balls, nets, equipment – gone.
"The heart of grassroots sport in Monmouth has been washed out.
"We’re asking the community to come together to rebuild the place that brings children, teens, adults, and seniors together every single week.
"Even a small donation will help us reopen the doors faster and ensure that our children don’t lose yet another season of sport, confidence, and community connection."
