Chepstow residents were evacuated from a house fire near a primary school unharmed on Friday, with fire services tackling the blaze in less than two hours.

Emergency services were called to Channel View, Bulwark in Chepstow after a call at approximately 4:27pm reported a house fire.

In a statement, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) confirmed that crews attended the scene with fire engines and a water bowser.

“SWFRS received a call at approximately 16:27 to reports of a fire on Queen’s Road, Chepstow,” a spokesperson said.

“Crews, fire engines and a water bowser from Chepstow and Maindee attended the scene along with crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service.”

“The fire was extinguished using ten breathing apparatus from SWFRS and six breathing apparatus from Avon FRS, four hose reel jets, and one 45mm safety jet, one drone was used to check fire spread and damage and hot spots were checked using Avon’s tower ladder.”

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”

It took fire fighters less than two hours to extinguish the blaze, with crews being stood down around 6:39pm.
