JAK Smith is continuing his stellar run this tri season with a second podium place at the Cleveland Steelman Middle Distance Triathlon, reports KELLY SALTER.

Saturday’s event at Ellerton Water Park in Yorkshire tasked competitors with a 2km lake swim, a 58-mile undulating bike ride and 20km run.

Fighting against a deluge of rain and muddy conditions, Jak smashed through the course in a magnificent four hours and 15 minutes, taking the swim in 23.17, the bike in two hours 21 minutes and the run in 1 hour 26 minutes.

“I put in another strong swim for the season and had good numbers on the bike despite the heavy rain,” said Jak.

“The run was tough off road in the mud but otherwise a solid result. Next up is the Scottish Middle Distance Championships in Aberfeldy.”

Meanwhile, Rob Neville stormed home first in the two-day 100k Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge which was routed across the peninsula, including Mumbles, Llangenith and Oxwich, with 2200m of elevation.

Amazingly, Rob, 48, only started running two years ago, and finished in 11 hours 10.01, nearly two hours ahead of his nearest rival.

Next weekend will see club members Sharon Neville, Rob's sister, take on the full middle distance triathlon at the GV70 Tri 2025 at Aberavon Beach (July 26), while Renske Bouwens, Nick Wellsted and Kelly Major will do the event as a relay.

The GV 70.tri 2025 includes a two-lap sea swim, two-lap bike course and three lap run.

Meanwhile, MonRoss Trailblazer Trina Sam took on The Porth I'r Gymru Gateway to Wales 30-mile ultra marathon around the peaks and trails of Abergavenny.

With 5,000 feet of elevation, the race proved a true test of endurance and determination.

And Trina smashed it, crossing the finish line in 9 hours 43 minutes and 30 seconds, to place 198th overall.
