MORE than 125 runners took on the Bluebell Blunder at Bigsweir and Gumbersland on Sunday – a 4.5-mile off-road Wye Valley race organised by RogueRuns, with sections on Offa's Dyke amid the beautiful Spring flowers, reports VICKY ROBERTS.
Andy Monro of Severn AC was first home in 30.17 chased by Spirit of Monmouth’s Ben Saunders in 31.21.
Fourth and fastest woman was Ben's club mate Katie Adams in 33.24, just pipping club chairman Barry Burns by 18 seconds, who placed second over-50.
Fourteen Spirits turned out to try and bag points in their own club championship, with Kirk Hill sixth and third over-50 man in 34.03, helping them take the men’s team title.
Bristol & West AC’s Ellie Mae-Barr was second woman in 35.07, followed by Chepstow Harriers’ Niki Morgan in 35.32 as first over-50 woman, who just pipped Spirit’s Sarah Heath, fastest over-60, by two seconds.
Spirit’s Matthew Visser crossed in 36.29 as first Senior Man, followed by club mates Rob Nelson (38.12) and James Exton (38.44), with Renske Bouwens fifth woman and second over-50 in 39.57 just pipping fastest over-60 man Gary Burley of Harriers in 40.10.
Spirits' Mike Visser took third over-60 man in 42.53, followed by club mates Maixent Gaillard (43.02) and Nick Sloper (46.50), who finished either side of Harriers' fastest over-70 man Stephen Owen (45.23).
Jacqui Wynds of Forest of Dean AC took the over-70 women's class in 49.10, with Fay Visser bringing the Spirits' ladies team home in 53.23, just ahead of club mate Steve Reason (53.30), to help secure the women's team title.
