THINGS were hotting up for the Spirits this week with some sizzling results…

Katie Adams was at the Ron Jones Stadium in Aberdare for the British Milers Club (BMC) event on Tuesday, running the 1500m in 5mins 15.88secs to finish 11th.

Wednesday’s Hereford and Borders Summer XC race at Shobdon Woods also saw Sarah Heath race home first over-60 woman, ninth female and 56th out of 200 in 36.34.

Thursday saw the next club championship instalment at the Thornbury 10k, starting at the Oldbury Sailing Club with views along the Severn Estuary and taking in both bridges and raced totally on country lanes.

Including the big "Cow Hill" – named after the village – and a steep hill up to the imposing St Arilda Church, four Spirits took on the event with Tom Chinnick leading the way in eighth and second over-40 in 37.44

Vicky Roberts flew down the final descent to finish third woman and first over-35 female in a new 10k PB 41.18, which placed her 22nd.

Nick Sloper had a decent race knocking over a minute off his last time with 49.17 for 84th, while Renske Bouwens finished in a respectable 52.36 for 115th.

Sunday saw the return of the Lightning Bolt… a 10k five-race series run around the country lanes of Langley Burrell near Chippenham.

With an elevation of just 14m it has established itself as one of the fastest 10ks and great territory for PBs.

Taking part in the second race were Martin Blakebrough and Jeremy Creasey who really felt the heat, with the former home first in 47.47 followed by the latter in 49.18.

On the parkrun front, Lee Davies ran 22.14 at Bath Skyline, matched on time by Matthew Visser at the Forest of Dean event.

But leading the pack as first woman home back home at Chippenham was Katie Adams who crossed in 20.51.
