Rugby-loving youngsters have been taking part at training sessions at Beachley Barracks.

The classes are being run by Forest of Dean-based Rugby Rockets, a company specialising in improving young players' core rugby skills.

"The classes are fun and active and we work with local rugby clubs such as Berry Hill, and I've been working with the 1st Rifles to get sessions set up there," said organiser Mary Johnson. Continued inside

"We play games such as tag rugby, play kicking games, passing, and we encourage the parents to participate in the passing and kicking sections.

"The aim of setting up the Rifles sessions was partly due to them not having much to do down that end of the village once they've left school and in the hope we could encourage parents in the area outside of the 'Army life' to come along as well so that the kids and parents get to mix and meet up with new people."

Classes are taken by coaches Andrew Davies of Monmouth Rugby Club and Ceri Large, who plays for Worcester Ladies and England Women.

"We're now accepting children up to the age of 10 at the sessions at Beachley," added Mary.
