REDBROOK Rovers produced an excellent performance to defeat hosts Lydbrook Athletic 2nds 3–1 in Saturday’s clash between two of the North Gloucestershire 1 front runners.

On a slippery surface, Lydbrook started strongly and were the better side for the opening 30 minutes, controlling possession and applying pressure.

Redbrook however showed resilience, defending solidly, competing for every ball and looking dangerous on the counter, with Ieuan Frost going close on several occasions.

But it was the hosts that took the lead through a clever free-kick before the break, lifting the ball over keeper Theo Bowen.

With manager Ian Morgan choosing to give several reserve team players valuable first-team minutes, Redbrook made early attacking changes in the second half – and the response was swift.

A superbly worked team move powerfully finished by Tom Wareham brought the equaliser on 50 minutes and shifted the momentum in Redbrook’s favour.

And Jayden Makondora stole the headlines with two outstanding individual goals on 59 and 74 minutes – the 2025 Welsh Schools Cup winner with Monmouth Comprehensive showing great composure and footwork to twice dance his way through the box to seal a deserved victory and leave Rovers second.

The 1sts host Tidenham this Saturday, while the 2nds are away to Lydbrook A.
