MONMOUTH 1st XI made it three wins out of three in the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League Division 3 on Saturday, with a comprehensive 10 wicket win at the sports ground over visitors Cardiff Gymkhana.

Upon winning the toss on a bright and sunny afternoon, the visitors decided to bat first on a green looking wicket but one which was rock hard underneath.

Despite losing two early wickets, Gymkhana soon settled on a good batting surface and made fine progress through captain M.Karim (21) and T.Tariq (49) to reach a daunting looking 85-2 after 19 overs.

However, the introduction of Wales and Gwent under-13 left arm spinner Ben Davies into the attack turned the tide for Monmouth, with the visitors collapsing to 99-7 thanks to a hat-trick of LBWs from Davies.

The youngster then continued to show great control and guile during his six over spell, to finish with the impressive figures of 6-20 and leaving the Gymkhana innings in ruins.

From there, it took some fine lower order striking from R.Singh (19 not out) to see the visitors reach 130 all out in 30 overs.

In addition to Davies, there were wickets for the returning Tej Saran (1-13 off 6), Neil Smith (1-48 off 9) and skipper Ben Turner (2-20 off 4) to help restrict the visitors to what was a below par total.

Monmouth also excelled in the field with sharp catches taken by Josh Grey and Neil Smith, plus two excellent stumpings from wicket-keeper Gareth Hughes.

Following the interval, Monmouth showed no mercy on their shell-shocked opponents as openers Adam Roberts (62 not out) and Josh Grey (61 not out) raced to the target in just 19.4 overs to give Monmouth a well deserved maximum 20 points, their 3rd in a row.
