FOLLOWING another defeat that surely ends any hope of a title challenge, Monmouth Town's cup run was put on further hold when their league cup quarter final clash fell victim to the weather at a waterlogged Newport Stadium.
The game against 2nd Division Llanwern will now be played this Saturday (21st February) in a 1.30pm kick off and manager Andrew Smith will be hoping his charges can bounce back from a disappointing defeat to league leaders Penybont.
Smith watched his team outplay Penybont for a second time in just over a week and come away again with nothing but regrets for a slew of missed chances and a couple of sloppy goals conceded.
"It's frustrating. We played really well against Goytre United (in a 4–1 win) and our overall play is very good and has been for a few weeks.
"But we must take our chances. It's hard to legislate or train for that. I can't fault us otherwise, but obviously if you don't score you don't win football games."
Smith still hasn't ruled out some more signings. "We're not desperate but could still do with a bit of freshness and maybe some different options and ideas.
"We can still have a say in what happens to the league and of course we're in two cups so silverware isn't out of the question.
Given the stop start season we've had a trophy would be a great season. Games will be coming thick and fast from now on so who knows what will happen."
Monmouth take on relegation strugglers Pontardawe on 28th February at 2.00 at Penypound Stadium.
