Working alongside Bacary were Sam and Dean Palmer, stalwarts of Monmouth's high flying Kingfishers team and canteen natter soon turned to something more serious when Sam and Dean suggested they meet up with club chairman Lee Robson.
"I knew Robbo would help out as he's a bit mad like that really and I know he wants the club do more in the community – I wasn't sure whether Africa counted though," said Sam.
Baks met up with Lee and asked whether any old kit could be shipped out to Africa. Lee duly obliged and gathered some old kit which when Baks next visited, he presented to his local team Santos United, based in the town of Banjul with just some of the kit with the promise of more to follow.
Lee said: "I'd just returned from a holiday in Gambia and visited Banjul so knew a little bit about the place.
"I was only too happy to help out and if we can do so again we will. It is expensive to ship things to Africa but little and often we can help out.
"Who knows, maybe there's a Scorpion out there (Gambia's nickname) who'll want to be a Kingfisher one day."
Bacary added: "Here are some of the photos I took when I went to see the team at the their training ground.
"Most of these lads are in the junior team but I have got a few photos of the squad during the competition.
"They really do appreciate the gifts and they said thank you to Monmouth Town FC. I hope we can continue this relationship between the two teams."
