NEWLY-promoted Rockfield Rovers beat last season's East Gwent Division One champions Sudbrook CC 3-0, in their third league game of the campaign, reports JACOB DEIGHTON.

Rovers arrived in Sudbrook off the back of a 7-5 win over Chepstow 3rds, whereas the hosts were winless having lost to Caldicot Castle.

And the visitors made a perfect start, Ben Johnson’s 12th-minute goal assisted by Ben Wiggins putting them 1-0 up at the break.

Ten minutes into the second period, a Ryan O’Keefe corner was headed home by Mason Hughes to give Rovers a 2-0 lead.

And the icing on the cake was delivered by scoresheet regular Ben Wiggins, his free-kick finding the bottom right corner to make it 3-0 to Rockfield with five minutes to play.

Victory leaves Rovers second with leaders Caldicot Castle – who beat Caldicot Town 2nds at the weekend – up next at home this Saturday (September 26).

Raglan Juniors slipped to their first defeat 2-1 away to Thornwell R&W in EG2, losing to a last-minute goal from sub Logan Jones who had equalised Larsson Brown's 49th-minute opener.

But Tintern Abbey bounced back from a 5-1 loss at the hands of Raglan the previous week with a 3-1 home victory over Sudbrook CC 2nds.

An Andrew Sincock penalty put them in front on 67 minutes after Hyni Kubisz had levelled the visitors' 23rd-minute opener within two minutes, and Sunny Kubisz completed the scoring three minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Llanarth fired a magnificent seven away to Fairfield Development in Gwent Central One, Dawson Stubbs firing a hat-trick, Riley Beard a brace and Shane Davies and Jordan Taylor one apiece in the 7-1 win.

Usk Town 2nds also hit hosts Forgeside 2nds for six in GC2, Dylan Howard-McCabe with a hat-trick backed by strikes from Ellis Lewis, Jim Robinson and David Egerton, the hosts' scoring the one consolation.
