A NICK Harrhy penalty was enough to grab all three points in a feisty encounter at the Sports ground last Saturday as Town bounced back from a dismal performance the previous week against Barry Town.

Manager Smith made a slight change in formation to be tougher to beat and restored Harrhy to his lone role up front with Sam Palmer and Joe Loftus coming in to add some solidity to a team that had shipped far too many goals. Blackburn returned in goal and the transformation was immediate.

The first half hour was all Monmouth as the visiting keeper pulled off a string of saves and Blackburn was back to his noisy self but was rarely threatened. Mitchell Palmer pulled off a great block to save a goal but Town would count themselves unlucky to go in at half time with nothing to show for their hard work.

The second half for the most part was more of the same, with Town threatening to cut loose but not quite able to finish off good approach work. That changed in the 71st minute as Harrhy was pushed as he tried to get on the end of a Palmer cross and the referee awarded the penalty much to the dismay of the visiting bench. Harrhy slotted the penalty home.

The match, sponsored by Spencer Accounting Services, opened up considerably from there as Ferry went more direct and could, and perhaps should, have equalised but for some poor finishing. Town were also guilty of missing some glorious openings but held on for a valuable three points and their third win in four.

Next week the Kingfishers are in Welsh Cup action at Goytre United while the Reserves take on Abergavenny Town at home, 2.30pm kick off.
