A LATE leveller saw Chepstow Town held to a 1-1 draw by basement boys Tredegar Town on Saturday, leaving the Jockeys looking over their shoulders four from bottom.
It's been a misfiring season for last year's Ardal South East runners-up, who at least have an eight-point buffer to the bottom two.
But when Tredegar's Ioan Webb put the ball into his own net after 24 minutes, hopes were high of a first win since October 18.
That's how it stayed until the 87th minute, when with victory almost in the bag, a Tredegar ball in to Luke Morgan saw him head into the Jockeys net for 1-1 and a share of the points.
Usk Town found themselves 3-0 down in 18 minutes at home to Crickhowell after conceding the first from the spot in the first minute.
And they were staring at a 5-0 Gwent Premier 2 drubbing after a 90th-minute fifth goal before grabbing two stoppage time consolations, both from the spot, converted by Jordan Loydall.
But Llanarth-based Glascoed beat Crickhowell 2nds by the same 5-2 score away, thanks to braces from Riley Williamson and Cole Surtees, plus one from Gary Phillips, to keep the pressure on Gwent Central One leaders Sebastopol who they host this Saturday.
Usk 2nds missed out 1-0 at Penygarn & Trevethin in GC2, but Rockfield Rovers fired to a 5-0 home win over Underwood to open a six-point gap at the top of East Gwent 2, courtesy of a Tommy Tynan hat-trick and a Ben Johnson brace.
Tintern Abbey led 2-1 at half-time at Portskewett & Sudbrook thanks to a Tama Yamagata strike and a Robert Davies penalty, but were beaten 3-2 by a stoppage time winner, leaving them fourth.
Chepstow Town travel to Taffs Well on Friday night (January 23) in the Ardal South Cup, while Saturday fixtures include Chepstow 2nds v Undy 3rds, Thornwell 2nds v Severn Tunnel, Tintern v Caldocot Castle 2nds, Caldicot Castle 3rds v Rockfield.
