Schools across Wales have been awarded a gold star for their high standards in PE.

Cross Ash Primary School has finished top of the class after their work in PE received a glowing report.

The Sport Wales and the Association for Physical Education (afPE) is recognising those schools who are putting PE to the top of the agenda.

All schools can apply for ActiveMarc Cymru and, this year, 50 schools from across Wales have passed with flying colours, making a total of 231 schools to have achieved the award since 2008.

ActiveMarc Cymru recognises schools that are committed to developing high quality physical education and school sport and to promoting the benefits of physical activity.

Cross Ash headteacher Marilyn Balkwill said: "We are very pleased to achieve this award again.

"The children at Cross Ash Primary School benefit from a wide range of sports activities, and participate enthusiastically both in and out of school time.

"In recent years we have continued to improve and extend our provision, including outdoor adventure activities.

"This award is well-deserved recognition of the tremendous commitment from staff, parents and pupils at the school."
