IT proved a tough day for Monmouth 1st XI as Cardiff’s Taw cantered to a seven-wicket win on Saturday (May 10).
The hosts were 118 all out, Matthew Jones top-scoring with 33, backed by Paul Brooks (25), Tom Calcutt (17) and Gareth Jones (11).
And Taw comfortably reached 124-3, Calcutt, Gareth Jones and Eddie Atkinson the wicket-takers.
The 2nds were also beaten away to Pontypridd 3rds, 116 all out after being blitzed for 305-5 .
Sam Uttley took two wickets, and Keiran Shaw, Tony Brennan and Benjamin McCluskey one apiece, with Matthew Williams (27), Neil Saunders (19), Shaw (14) and Callum Uttley (13no) their runmakers.
Chepstow 1st XI crushed Croesyceiliog by 112 runs though, Scott Bailey firing 103 supported by Aaron Jones (32), Ben Sidney-Jones (30), Ben Hope-Bell (30no) and Jason Dobbie (19no) in their 265-6.
Croesey were then 153 all out, Lewys Jones with 4-38 and Filip Chitnis 3-16.
The 2nds also won away to Machen 1sts, their 150 all out target largely thanks to a 69-run eighth-wicket stand between Malith Madurasinghe (38) and Lloyd Bartlett (22).
Machen reached 56-1, but Chepstow then laid waste skittling them for 80, Andrew de Almeida with three last-over wickets, backed by Bartlett with three and Bruno Chitnis two.
The 3rds beat Lisvane 4ths away, Ben Tate with three wickets, and Rajendra Chitnis, Luca Goddard and Tom Absalom two apiece in the Cardiff outfit’s 124 all out before Alun Jones (65) and Goddard (32) helmed a 128-2 reply.
A magnificent 116 from skipper Ollie Mann and 51 not out from Glen Hamilton guided Llanarth 1sts to 226-7 before dismissing visitors Llandaff 3rds for 178, Dan Moseley with four wickets, and Mann and Will Heath braces.
The 2nds also won away to Vale 3rds, skipper Chris Page firing 81, David Griffiths 43 and Nick White 34 in their 261-5, before Mark Batt (4), Page (3) and Harrison Griffiths (2) helped dismiss the hosts for 224.
And Penallt & Redbrook won at home to Dymock 2nds, skipper Kamaal Mitha striking 78 not out and Graham Hyde 30 as they overhauled 129-7 reaching 130-1.
