JUNIOR players at Monmouth Cricket Club have been recognised for an outstanding season.

Coaches Gareth Jones and Rhydian James were delighted with the effort and enthusiasm from all the young players and thanked Monmouthshire Building Society for their support for the club’s youth section.

Five players gained regional representative honours this summer.

Jared Janes (Gloucestershire County Cricket Club Under-12s); Osian Jones and Albie Balfour (Cricket Wales East Under-12s); Louis James (Cricket Wales East Under-11s) and Joshua Hurd (Cricket Wales East Under-13s) were excellent ambassadors for the club.

On the team front, Monmouth’s under-11 and under-13 teams both made progress, reaching the semi-finals of the Gwent Cup.

Ginny Hickmott, from Monmouthshire Building Society, very kindly presented the awards to members of Monmouth’s thriving youth section.

Jared Janes scooped the Best Batting Performance award for the under-13 team after hitting a brilliant half-century in Monmouth’s Gwent Cup semi-final against Abergavenny.

Max Taylour won the Best Bowling Performance honour for the under-13 team after snapping up five wickets in a match-changing four-over spell in Monmouth’s cup quarter-final triumph against Blackwood.

Wicketkeeper Albie Balfour, who dazzled with the gloves, won the honour for the Most Improved Player for the under-13 team.

In Monmouth’s under-11 team, Zach Mason, who hit a fine unbeaten 46 against Usk in the cup, was recognised for the Best Batting Performance.

Sam Smith, who shone in the cup quarter-final success against Llanarth, scooped the honour for the Best Bowling Performance in Monmouth’s under-11 team.

And Harri Thomas was the deserved recipient of Monmouth Under-11s Most Improved Player accolade.
