South East Wales Cricket League Division One - Chepstow (210-8) beat Cardiff Gymkhana (73 all out) by 137 runs
CHEPSTOW First XI skipper Jason Dobbie and bowler Luke Watson shared all 10 wickets in a stunning display of bowling at the weekend.
Dobbie, who earlier had been sent back to the pavilion without scoring, returned figures of 5-31 with three maidens in his 10-over spell while Watson took 5-42 in his.
Gareth Ansell and Ryan Scrivens gave Chepstow a reasonable start but when Scrivens was out, caught behind by wicket keeper Taiha Talib, two wickets fell cheaply before Tyler Morgan-Huggett (30) and Malith Madurasinghe (18) steadied the ship.
And as Madurasinghe explained later, the match was on a knife-edge for a time.
“It was good to get a win under our belt after a couple of defeats but although the victory looks comfortable on paper, once Gareth was out for a fine 46, we were 99-5 and there was a danger we could have been bowled out for around 150,” he said.
“It was pleasing to see the middle order take us past 200 and give the bowlers something to defend.
“Both Jason and Luke bowled superbly and it was fitting they finished with five wickets each to take us to victory.
“We play Brecon away next week and will be looking to take some confidence there from today’s result.”
Alyn Franklin (27) and Luke Watson (26 not out) were the two batsmen who took Chepstow to 210.
In reply, Gymkhana were 20 without loss when Dobbie struck to trap opener Usman Jaura lbw and then clean-bowled his replacement.
Watson removed Gymkhana’s other opener for 21 and apart from brief resistance by Sree Reddivari (11 not out), Dobbie and Watson mopped up the other batsmen for single-figure scores.
