South East Wales Cricket League Division One (Second XIs) - Newbridge 190-8 lost to Chepstow Second XI (194-5) by five wickets

Abergavenny (90-0) beat Sudbrook Second XI (87 all out) by 10 wickets

CHEPSTOW Seconds clinched the Division One championship to give retiring captain Huw Rogers a great send-off at Newbridge.

“It was a really good win against a strong and competitive Newbridge outfit,” Rogers said later.

“I won the toss and bowled on a slightly damp green surface. Luke Watson, Riz Mansoor and Will Durbin bowled with real pace and aggression.

”They were backed up by spinners Lewys Jones and Tuhin Gavand and we

restricted Newbridge to 190-8 which we felt was a score just below par.

“Jamie Rayner (119) carried on his season’s fine form with a fourth ton taking us to within sight of the finishing line.

“A few late wickets gave us a few nervous moments but Scotty Bailey with a breezy 20 not out saw us to victory with a couple of overs to spare.

“In my last season as skipper it was a great feeling to finish as champions. The players this year have been a pleasure to lead and made my job an easy one.”

Elsewhere in the league, Sudbrook Second XI lost to hosts Abergavenny by 10 wickets.
