MONMOUTH CC’s women recorded a solid win against Chepstow at Llanarth in the South East Softball League, captain Ashley Burdett with 41 and Amy Rawcliffe 22 leading the way as they posted 138-2 from 16 overs in Sunday’s fixture.

Amalia Richardson (11 not out), Karina Shaw (11 not out) and Penny Boyle (10 not out) also registered double figures for the Bürkert Fluid Control Systems-sponsored side.

Burdett (2-46) and Boyle (1-10) then picked up wickets as Chepstow replied with 106-4.

Molly Bliss (31) top scored for Chepstow, while Rawcliffe, Richardson, Alison Beynon, Shaw, Lisa Evans and Claire Knight all delivered tidy spells for Monmouth.

In their other league fixture of the day, Monmouth were pipped by hosts Llanarth Acorns.

The Trees made 103-5 from 16 overs, with contributions from Jessica McCaroll (23 not out), Ellen Phillips (12 not out) and captain Jo Holley (11), while Evans (1-8), Boyle (1-13), Burdett (1-15) and Rawcliffe (1-23) all snapped up wickets.

Captain Burdett (24 not out), Knight (12), Evans (12) and Rawcliffe (10) then shone as Monmouth replied with 99-7, while Holley was Llanarth’s most successful bowler.

Monmouth Women host Cardiff 2nds at noon this Sunday (16 August) in South Wales Women’s Hardball League One.

The annual 20-overs-a-side tribute match against Monmouth CC honours a kind soul with a heart of gold.

A huge Sheffield Wednesday fan, Dave thrived volunteering at Monmouth Town FC, helping develop the club to where it is today.

Dave and a vast quantity of volunteers successfully pulled off the biggest junior football tournament in Wales and oversaw plans for the erection of the football stand.

He was also a much-loved member of Monmouth CC 3rds and cherished playing alongside sons Callum and Sam.
