TWO much-loved stalwarts will be remembered at Monmouth Cricket Club’s end-of-season presentation evening next month.

David ‘Dai’ Williams, a long-serving umpire, treasurer and vice-chairman, and Trevor Slocombe, a scorer and membership secretary, were both popular members of the town’s cricket club

And, rather fittingly, their outstanding contributions to the club will live on with the introduction of two new awards in their honour.

The club’s senior members and guests will be reflecting on a busy summer at their presentation evening at The Royal Oak, Hereford Road, Monmouth on Friday 9 October at 7.30pm.

Talented bowler Kelly Chilton (12 wickets) had a campaign to relish, finishing as the leading wicket-taker in South Wales Women’s Hardball League Division 1.

Captain Ashley Burdett (seven wickets) was joint 10th in the division’s bowling charts as Monmouth’s women secured fifth spot in the table.

Impressive all-rounder Burdett, with 295 runs, was also the second highest run-maker in Division 1.

Sophie Davies (110 runs) was 13th on the list of run-makers, while, Chilton, who bagged three catches, was joint seventh in the division’s fielding charts.

Silverware in 2026 was achieved by Monmouth’s midweek team, sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, who won the Forest of Dean Hundred Championship final against Lydney at the Sports Ground.

All-rounder Ben Pilot, who captained the triumphant midweek team, finished joint second – with 26 wickets – in the list of wicket-takers in South-East Wales League Division 6.

Eddie Atkinson (21 wickets) also had a fine season, coming equal fifth in the section.

Ben Davies (494 runs) and Pilot (491 runs) were fourth and fifth respectively in the division’s run-scoring charts.

And wicketkeeper William Wilton was joint seventh, with 11 victims, for fielding dismissals in the division as Monmouth 1st XI finished a respectable fourth in the table.

Promising second team opener Jake Teague (479 runs) was the third highest run-scorer in Division 12.

Captain Andrew Dobbie (417 runs) was eighth on the list and Ian Morgan (386 runs) 10th as Monmouth 2nds finished seventh in the division.

Wicketkeeper Dobbie (10 victims) was joint fourth for fielding dismissals in the division.

Meanwhile, Usk CC’s team skippers have had their say on their season.

Firsts captain Elliot Doyle said: “A late-season losing streak saw us finish in sixth in South Wales Premier One, some way short of what we aimed for...

“Injuries added to the losses of form that hurt us throughout the year, but there were signs of growth from a few of the young lads in particular, and we’ll look forward to bouncing back in 2027.”

And 2nds skipper Jamie Rayner said: “A rocky start to life in South East Wales 2 threatened to derail us, but the boys dug in, fought back, and finished a hard-earned sixth.

“We had a grinding mid-season slump, then a defiant August surge, achieving three wins in four, to close the season on a high.

“Lots of learnings to take into next year from our first outing in Div 2.”

Arvind Aswani, 3rds captain, added after finishing ninth in SEW 9: “The team fought hard all year and we were unlucky to be on the wrong side of some results.

“Team spirit was fantastic and great to see some youngsters coming through. We’re excited for what’s ahead!”
