Chepstow Bowling Club situated in Mathern Road, Bulwark, is part of Chepstow Athletic Club.

It is a happy club where women and men integrate well with a membership of 80 men and 50 women.

There are a lot of activities both on and off the bowling green, which opens in April and closes at the end of September. Social evenings, a summer barbecue and presentation evening take place each year.

During the season, club competitions and tournaments are organised and each May members join the club tour, this year to Tenby.

Chepstow Bowling Club's early history is a little sketchy. The plaque denotes that the club was founded in 1928 and has occupied the present premises since 1960. In 1963 the Ladies Section was formed.

Improvements to the club house have taken place over the years. Last year a new ladies changing room was added at a cost of £19,000 fully funded by a number of local organisations.

President Peter Ralph and chairman, lan McCrone were deeply involved with this extension and Peter Shapiand looked after the funding.

The Men's Section runs teams in four leagues. The Ladies Section bowl in the SW & Mon League where they have been successful over the years. They also bowl in the Casnewyd Evening League midweek. In addition, mixed friendly matches take place each Wednesday and some Thursdays.

Club captain Dave King, is proud that his team won promotion to play in Division 1 of the MBA League this season.

The club is always on the look out for new members who will be given a warm welcome. Taster and coaching courses are available for beginners and anyone who is interested should contact the secretary, Peter Shapland on 01291 422208 or look at the club website which is regularly updated.
