The excitement of Christmas has not abated for Ross Child of Achievement, James Gething-Lewis. He and and his family are off on a fantastic week long VIP holiday to Fuerteventura, an extra surprise gift from Airtours, who sponsored the awards.

James, who was six in June, was one of the 150 brave children who received Awards from the Charity Patron, the Rt Hon John Major CH MP, at a star-studded ceremony at London's Hilton Hotel in February.James was born with cancer of the abdomen and was not expected to live. He had to bravely battle through and learn all his life skills after extensive surgery and long sessions of chemotherapy.

Amanda Gething Lewis, James' mother said that James and his sister Annabel have both been "spoilt rotten", with loads of presents from Father Christmas. James has a new bed with a den underneath where he keeps all his toys.

Said Amanda: " Having spent one Christmas in hospital with James, you never forget how lucky you are and live life to the full wherever possible."

As she was speaking to The Ross Gazette, James was clamouring to be 'dressed up', Amanda explained: "James loves dressing up, all Christmas Day he wore his new present of a Captain Scarlet suit.

"He is very excited about the holiday. There is a swimming pool where we will be staying and he is looking forward to splashing around in his arm bands."

James suffers from hypotania, - weak muscles, which means he gets tired very easily and looks younger than his years. However, he and is generally a very healthy, happy child, and has caught up with the other children in his class at the Cathedral Junior School in Hereford, which he attends with Annabel, who is seven.

Amanda added: "Receiving this award this year has been particularly important as James has been in remission from the cancer for five years which is a major milestone.

"We are very proud of him, he thoroughly deserves this award, having endured years of intensive treatment, often painful, but always with a smile on his face."

Julie Fisher, founder of the Child of Achievement Awards, paid tribute to Airtours: ""For many of our Award winners a holiday just isn't something they take for granted. The logistic of planning is a mammoth task.

"The care-line help they and other Airtours passengers with special needs receive, will make the trip stress free ensuring everyone in the party has a fantastic time."
