SIR,

I would like to pay tribute via your letters page to Councillor Terry Ashton for his recent work as chair of the CCTV Working Group for Monmouth Town Council.

Since being elected in May, Terry has worked tirelessly to promote the benefits of CCTV in Monmouth, to both residents and his fellow town councillors.

As chair of the Working Group, he has spent many hours organising meetings, liaising with the various organisations that have provided information to the group and visiting them in order to establish a clear picture of the state of the county council-run CCTV Partnership.

In spite of the many obstacles he has encountered, Terry has been absolutely determined to present an objective report for consideration by the full council.

It is to his great credit that the vote was in favour of CCTV. He is an active and energetic town councillor, who has involved himself with the residents in his ward, representing their concerns to various public bodies in order to highlight the very real issue of anti-social behaviour in the town.

Residents, visitors and business-owners alike all have much to thank Cllr Ashton for he has been key to the return of CCTV to the town and community safety will be the better for his efforts.

Brian Ramsey
