SIR,

May I, on behalf of myself, my son Ben and his wife Nicola thank you for the tribute you wrote about my father – George (Roy) Ash – in the Monmouthshire Beacon 2nd May.

It was a surprise to us that he should be remembered in such a wonderful way. It was a great honour for me to have been his daughter and for Ben to have such a loving granddad.

His loss to us has been immense, and his family and friends sadly miss him.

We shall always remember with great pride his wartime stories and the enormous loss of life he witnessed during the Second World War.

His aim in life was always to reach the 'Big 100', which he did, his birthday celebrations seemed to go on and on but he enjoyed every minute of them, though his health and mobility were slowly deteriorating.

Thank you for the tribute to a very proud Monmouth man, who enjoyed his family and lived a long, happy, eventful, interesting and wonderful life.

Sue, Ben and Nicola

(Monmouth)
