PUPILS from Monmouth's Talocher School climbed to the summit of Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales on Friday 23rd March.

The school is home to pupils with Emotional Social Behavioural Difficulties (ESBD) and it is these pupils that had the idea of raising money for Sport Relief.

Teacher Owen Marshall said: "It was a beautiful day and every pupil got to the summit.

"Pupils worked hard and the challenge was probably underestimated by a few staff members too. All in all the walk up took us 90 minutes, and an hour to return.

"In total the school has raised over £500 from the selling of raffle tickets, sweatbands and sponsorship for the actual walk.

"This is a great amount of money as we are such a small school. All the pupils have shown a desire to help those less fortunate than themselves and the school is very proud of every pupil for the way they have responded to the Sport Relief campaign and the challenge that they completed" he said.

Vice principal of the school, Claire Imber, said: "I am extremely proud of both the staff and pupils for supporting such a worthy cause and completing such a challenge.

"The pupils have all shown great courage and determination to achieve a common goal, and to raise so much money for charity is brilliant."
