Footpath closure proposed in Monmouth
Monmouthshire County Council has issued a Public Path Order under Section 118 of the Highways Act 1980 to extinguish part of Footpath No. 267 in Kingswood, Monmouth. The affected section begins at Point A (SO49281246), running east for 74 metres to Point B, then continues east-southeast for 164 metres to Point C. From there, it extends east for 64 metres to Point D, and finally east for 48 metres to join the county road at Point E (SO49621245).
The Order and accompanying map are available for public inspection at the Monmouth Community Hub, Rolls Hall, and online at Monmouthshire.gov.uk under reference CAM01092.
Objections or representations must be submitted in writing to the Chief Officer, Law and Governance, Monmouthshire County Council, by December 10. If unopposed, the Order may be confirmed by the council or referred to Welsh Ministers for final decision.
Overnight closures planned for A40
Motorists in Monmouthshire are being advised of upcoming overnight closures on the A40 trunk road between Raglan Interchange and Dixton Roundabout, Monmouth. The Welsh Ministers have issued a Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to allow essential works to take place on or near the route.
Starting on November 10 2025, the A40 will be closed intermittently between 8pm and 6am for up to 18 months. The closures will affect both eastbound and westbound carriageways, as well as specific slip roads and lay-bys near Dingestow and Mitchel Troy. Emergency vehicles and vehicles involved in the works will be permitted access.
Cyclists, pedestrians, and users of invalid carriages are also prohibited from using the affected sections and are advised to follow designated alternative footways. Diversion routes have been arranged for all vehicle types, including non-HGV, non-motorway, and HGV traffic, with detailed instructions available on the Welsh Government’s website at gov.wales/road-orders.
Local access will be maintained where possible, particularly between Dixton Roundabout and the B4233 north of the Gibraltar Tunnels. For those affected by the closure of the north-eastbound slip road from Cinderhill Street, traffic should divert through Monmouth town centre to rejoin the A40 at Dixton Roundabout.
The Welsh Government encourages road users to plan ahead and check for updates throughout the duration of the works. The full Order and Notice, including maps and schedules, are available online for public viewing.
