Motorists across Monmouthshire are being urged to plan ahead as the council rolls out a cluster of short but significant road closures throughout March, covering everything from BT fibre upgrades to Welsh Water repairs.
The works begin on 11 March, when B4598 Porthycarne Street in Usk will be closed for signage installation, with traffic diverted along the A40, A449 and A472 to keep vehicles moving during the daytime shutdown.
Next on the schedule is March 18, when a short stretch of the R108 at Tredunnock will shut between 9.30am and 3.30pm. The closure allows essential poling works and requires a lengthy diversion via the A472 through Usk, looping around Priory Street and Maryport Street before rejoining routes towards Newbridge‑on‑Usk..
The following day, March 19, Llandenny Walks Road will be closed for BT engineering, again operating between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Drivers will be redirected along Llandenny Road, Monmouth Road and Ty Freeman Road as crews carry out the upgrade..
On March 20, attention shifts to Shirenewton, where part of the C61.1 between Shirenewton and Rhewl Farm will close for BT works, with traffic routed through Crick Road, the A48 and Pwllmeyric during the one‑day operation.
Then from 24 to 26 March, R82 at Newchurch will be shut for Welsh Water works, with vehicles diverted via Devauden Court, the B4293 and the B4235.
Monmouthshire County Council says resident access will be maintained but warns drivers to expect localised delays and to allow extra time when travelling on affected dates.
Road closure at Llandegveth
Drivers are advised of a one‑day closure on White House Road, Llandegveth, where essential poling works will take place on March 20. The road will shut between 8am and 5pm, covering a 270‑metre stretch from its junction with Candwr Road, according to Monmouthshire County Council.
Reasonable access for local properties will be maintained throughout the works. A signed diversion will direct traffic via Tre Herbert Road and Candwr Road. The council reminds motorists that failing to comply with restrictions issued under the Road Traffic Regulation Act constitutes an offence
