Monmouthshire County Council has issued three Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs) affecting key routes across the county this November and December. These closures are necessary to facilitate essential infrastructure works, including BT poling and gas main replacements, and aim to ensure public safety while minimising disruption.
The first closure will take place on Trebern Road, Pen Yr Heol, scheduled for November 13. BT will be conducting poling works between 9:30am and 3:30pm, requiring the temporary closure of approximately 180 metres of road, starting around 370 metres from its junction with Bryngwyn Road. A signed diversion will guide traffic via Waste Road and Bryngwyn Road. Access to properties along the affected stretch will be maintained throughout the works.
In Llandenny, Lower Raglan Road will be closed from November 17-18 , also for BT poling works. The closure spans approximately 1.3km, beginning 1.25km from its junction with the B4235 Chepstow Road. Work will be carried out between 9:30am and 3:30pm on both days. Diversion signage will direct motorists via B4235 Chepstow Road, Cefn Tilla Road, Llandenny Road, and R71 Lower Raglan Road to Old Quarry Road. As with other closures, reasonable access will be maintained for residents.
The most extensive closure affects Castle Hill in Raglan, where Wales and West Utilities will be replacing gas mains. This closure begins on November 17 and is expected to last until December 19 . The affected section runs approximately 55 metres from its junction with Barton Bridge Close. A diversion route will be in place via Old Monmouth Road and Monmouth Road. The council has confirmed that access to properties will be preserved during the works.
All three TTROs are issued under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which allows local authorities to temporarily close roads for maintenance and safety purposes. Anyone who contravenes the restrictions may be subject to penalties under Section 16 of the Act.
Monmouthshire County Council encourages residents and motorists to plan ahead and follow the signed diversion routes to avoid delays. These works are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade essential infrastructure across the county.
