A WYESIDE village care home has secured planning approval for a major accessibility upgrade at its listed premises.

Herefordshire Council has granted listed building consent for the installation of a new passenger lift at Whitchurch House Care Home in Symonds Yat West, alongside an extension at the first-floor level to accommodate the infrastructure.

The application (P262289/L) was submitted in early August 2026.

Following consultations with Historic England, the council’s Built and Natural Environment team, and the local parish council, officers determined the proposal was appropriate for the Grade II-listed Georgian building.

Permission was officially granted with conditions on October 5, 2026.

The modern addition aims to enhance mobility and comfort for residents, improving interior access while preserving the architectural heritage of the building.

Work is expected to commence following compliance with the approved planning conditions.
