The proposed sales include Chapel House, located on The Parade (NP25 3PA), 37–39 St Mary Street (NP25 3DD), and Mountjoy, formerly known as Gloucestershire House, at 42 and 44 St James Street (NP25 3DL). These properties have long-standing ties to the town’s educational and charitable heritage.

The notices, issued under Section 121(2) of the Charities Act 2011, were published on 19 November 2025. Interested parties are invited to submit written representations regarding the proposals. All comments must be addressed to the Director for Schools and Estates at Haberdashers’ Hall, 18 West Smithfield, London, EC1A 9HQ, or emailed to [email protected]. Submissions must be received no later than 19 December 2025; responses after this date will not be considered.

Copies of the property plans can be requested in writing from the Bursar at St Catherine’s House, 17 Hereford Road, Monmouth, NP25 3HG.

The William Jones’s School Foundation, established to support education in Monmouth, continues to manage its assets in line with charitable objectives. The proposed sales mark a significant moment for the town, as these properties have been part of its architectural and cultural fabric for decades.

Roads close for utility works

Monmouthshire County Council has announced several temporary road closures this month for essential BT and gas works.

Ton Road, Llangybi will shut on November 24, and R42 Penrhos Farm to Beiliau Wood on November 25, both between 9:30am and 3:30pm. Diversions will be signposted.

Also on November 24, Forge Road, Tintern will close for BT cabling until November 28, affecting 0.62km west of the A466. Signed routes include Trellech and Catbrook roads. R113 Usk Road, Llanllowell will close in two phases: 24–28 November and 1–5 December, for BT cabling and pole testing, with extensive diversions via Usk and surrounding routes.

Gas works by Wales & West Utilities have already begun on Castle Hill, Raglan, with closures from November 17 to December 19 near Barton Bridge Close. Diversions run via Old Monmouth Road and Castle Street.

Access for residents will be maintained throughout. All orders are under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and may remain in force for up to 18 months, though works are expected to finish on scheduled dates.
