A new course is helping to open up the world of photography to a group of disabled adults.
'Through New Eyes' is described as a weekly exploration of the visual world, with sessions taking place every Friday at Bridges Community Centre.
The learners, who have a range of physical and learning disabilities, are currently working on individual projects leading to an exhibition in the summer.
Tutor Sue Bezani retired last year after 10 years teaching photography, performing arts, English and maths at the National Star College (NSC) in Cheltenham.
She said the learners on the course come from a range of different backgrounds and are encouraged to push their own personal boundaries.
Kate Thomas was one of Sue's students at NSC, passing three photography exams and being featured in an exhibition in Cheltenham.
The 23-year-old, who lives in Llanhennock, near Usk, started off working with black and white film after being introduced to photography by her mum.
Kate, who has now moved on to digital photography, has already started her project on old buildings.
Sue says another of her students, 27-year-old Karl Parrish, produced some "stunning" black and white work in his time at NSC.
Karl Clothier said he was excited about his personal project and was looking to do something around his local area.
His mum Diane said they had been enjoying walks around the Severn Estuary since moving to Caldicot and so Karl may focus on the bridge and the River Severn.
Jason's Canon camera is attached to his wheelchair by a special arm, and is connected to a button on his headrest which allows him to take pictures.
His project is on Welsh castles and he has already started visiting some of Monmouthshire's fine examples.
"Anybody who wants to come along, we have the technology and can help," said Sue.
Sue has secured initial funding for the project and says she is grateful to Bridges for giving it a base.
"I retired from NSC last July and it was Kate's mum who said we should do something in Monmouth," she said.
"So I set about doing something in Monmouth, starting with my old college students and a few other people.
"We meet every Friday during term-time from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and it is £5 per session.
"It is open to people whether they are using an SLR or compact, working with film or even using a disposable camera."
Sue will be pleased to address individuals or groups of health/ education professionals to explain the project more fully.
