PEOPLE in Monmouthshire have the opportunity to take a tour in Monmouth’s Monnow Bridge Gatehouse on July 5 as part of the Monmouth Medieval Festival.
The event offers the chance to explore the unique building which is the only fortified structured bridge remaining in the UK.
The Medieval Festival is a free event featuring a medieval market on Vauxhall Fields, medieval minstrels, tours of Monmouth Castle and Monnow Bridge, sword, archery and falconry.
The Monnow Bridge was originally built with a portcullis, its main use was for defence of the border between England and Wales but as the years progressed it became a toll collection point, a jail and even a home.
