MONMOUTH has been ranked as the 4th calmest dog getaways and is one of the quietest road environments in the top 10 – just 3,430 car per day on the nearest A-road, the third-lowest figure in the top 10 with the result that the town still feels still.
A study conducted by Dog Friendly Retreat found that sitting at the meeting point of the Wye and the Monnow Bridge on the edge of the Wye Valley AONB, it offers the kind of low- stimulus environment that suits a noise- sensitive dog.
It’s the pub stronghold of the top 10:17 dog-friendly pubs serve a population of just over 10,000 – 16.5 per 10,000 residents, the highest pub density of any retreat in the top 10.
The Monnow Bridge is the only fortified river bridge of its kind left in Britain, which sits at the heart of the town with plenty of dogs walks in the area.
