The £3.27million redevelopment of Monmouth's Trevor Bowen Court is a step closer.
Affordable housing specialist Lovell has been selected by Monmouthshire Housing Association to develop the sheltered housing complex.
The scheme will see the outdated Trevor Bowen Court sheltered housing block in Wonastow Road replaced with a modern development featuring 20 self-contained apartments built to modern energy-efficiency standards.
Lovell will also build 12 two and three-bedroom houses at the site which will be for open market sale by Monmouthshire Housing Association.
Former residents of Trevor Bowen Court and local people have been closely consulted and involved in the redevelopment programme, designed by the Willdig Lammie Partnership architectural practice, for the 1970s-built sheltered housing scheme.
All of the new housing will exceed Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system which measures the energy-efficiency of new-build properties.
Work is set to start soon on the year-long construction project, which was awarded to Lovell through a competitive tendering process.
Lovell regional director David Gough said: "It is exciting to be starting work on this scheme for Monmouthshire Housing Association.
"Our team has a strong record of achievement in building sheltered housing to a very high standard as well as delivering quality housing for sale and we are thrilled to be bringing that expertise to this project.
"As part of our Lovell Legacy commitment to creating wide-ranging benefits in communities, we will also be taking on apprentices through the construction programme."
Recent projects by Lovell in the area include Cwrt William Jones, a gated development in the centre of Monmouth on the site of the old Almhouses
