It has been confirmed that the works on Inglis Bridge will now commence on Tuesday February 10th when a crane will be brought on site to lift the bridge out onto Vauxhall Field.

Cllr Jane Lucas told the Beacon that providing there is no high wind, the bridge will be lifted out from where it has been sat since 1931.

Known locally as Vauxhall Bridge, it has been closed due to safety concerns, but it can now undertake full repairs, allowing another accessible pathway for residents.

Earlier preparatory work had already begun on the bridge, but the full repair couldn’t begin until they received a final approval from Natural Resources Wales.

The project has been benefitted by sustained efforts from Osbaston Ward Councillor, Jane Lucas, who has been working closely with local authorities and communicating with residents throughout the journey.

Cllr Lucas said, "The real work of lifting the bridge and getting it back in use can really start know. Thank you all for making it possible."

MP for Monmouthshire, Catherine Fookes has also been working closely with Monmouthshire County Council, the Ministry of Defence, Natural Resources Wales to move the project forward.

“I’m really pleased that the final permission has now been granted and that repair works on Inglis Bridge can finally begin,” said Catherine.
