A Monmouth man has praised the ambulance workers, and plumber, that looked after his wife after she fell at home.

Graham Binning also told how wife Helen spent five hours on the floor of their Wyesham home before an ambulance arrived.

Graham was at Nevill Hall Hospital for an unrelated matter when his wife fell at about 3.30pm last Friday afternoon (4th February).

"Helen is registered blind and can only go shopping when I take her out in a wheelchair," he said.

"Later, she told me she remembered getting up from the chair and the next thing she knew she was on the floor.

"She was in a lot of pain and could not move."

Fortunately, plumber Don Davies was on his way to the house and arrived around 15 minutes after Helen's fall.

"He knocked on the door and could hear Helen shouting for help. We have an emergency key outside and she had to tell him how to find it so he could come in," said Graham.

"He was able to come to her assistance and made her as comfortable as possible without moving her.

"I can't praise Don highly enough."

Graham was at this point making his way back from Nevill Hall and happened to call home.

"She told me she'd had an accident but not to worry, so I got home as quick as I could," he said.

"Don had offered to call an ambulance but Helen was worried that if one came quickly, I would miss her going the other way and so waited until I was home.

"When I got back I dialled 999 for an ambulance and was told not to move her, they would be there as soon as they could.

"After three quarters of an hour I rang again to see if the ambulance would be much longer.

"Half an hour after that a paramedic arrived, an excellent girl called Janette, who assessed the situation quickly and was a great comfort to my wife.

"Janette had come straight from Gibraltar Care and as soon as she walked in said she thought Helen had chipped a bone in her leg.

"She got in touch with the ambulance service to see what the situation was as she was at the end of her shift, by now it was 6pm.

"Shortly afterwards, the relief paramedic Phil came in to take over and wait for the ambulance."
