Jackie Atkin has been elected as the Mayor of Monmouth, who was previously the Deputy Mayor to Cllr David Evans.
The procedure involved the now previous Mayor, Cllr Evans making making personal nomination, followed by a seconder, before asking if there were to be any more nominations.
Councillor David Evans said: “You know me as a bit of a traditionalist; I would like to make a personal nomination and that would be to my deputy who has served this council well during the past 12 months and that is Councillor Jackie Atkin.”
The Clerk of Monmouth, Caitlin Williams responded: “All in favour.”
A vote for all in favour was followed and there was one abstention, and there wasn’t any against.
New Mayor of Monmouth, Councillor Jackie Atkin led a speech, “I think we should all thank David Evans or his impressive term as Mayor.”
“I am honoured to act as chair for the full council, and I promise to work tirelessly to provide scrutiny and accountability that we all work towards.”
“My chosen charities will be Welsh Women's Aid and Gwent music who provide musical instruments and tuition in this community and the wider who are desperate for funding.”
“I hope to serve in this role in the way you would wish me to represent so thank you so much.”
