IN AN apparel market crowded with fast fashion, generic workwear and forgettable branding, a local company is building more than uniforms.

Black Mountain Clothing, based on the Ashburton Industrial Estate in Ross-on-Wye is a business that is not chasing trends. They are building belief.

Huw Lewis, chief executive of the company, states that a cult following does not happen when someone buys a shirt.

“It happens when they buy into who they are at work, how they show up and what they stand for,” he said. “And that is exactly where Black Mountain Clothing has carved out its position”

Mr Lewis said that company’s want their teams to look aligned, professional and representative of the business they are building adding: “Its Identity over design - customers are not just buying garments. They are buying confidence, consistency and credibility.”

Mr Lewis says that for Black Mountain Clothing, the belief is simple- workwear should work as hard as the people wearing it.

Black Mountain was founded by Huw Lewis and his wife Mel in 2015 and was initially set up to support his other organisation, MPCT, with their uniform fulfilment. MPCT is a very specialist, award winning college with locations across the UK and Huw couldn't find a uniform provider that was able to supply his staff and students with high quality uniform efficiently.

From this problem, he and his wife Mel formed Black Mountain in the basement of their home. Its mission was simple: to deliver on a promise and every individual mattered.

Mr Lewis said the future was looking bright: “From hospitality and forestry to construction, leisure and multi-site operators, Black Mountain Clothing is proving that workwear can be functional, premium and emotionally resonant at the same time.

“The result is not just repeat orders, but genuine loyalty, advocacy and a growing community of brands that feel proud to wear their identity on their sleeve.”
