A highly successful and enjoyable evening was held at the Misbah Bangladeshi Restaurant in Priory Street, Monmouth on the 26th November.
A magnificent buffet consisting of many traditional Bangladeshi dishes was served to a gathering of people; among the guests was the mayor of Monmouth Councillor Felicity Cotton.
The purpose of the evening was to raise funds to help Rohingya peoples in Mayanmar.
Myanmar’s security forces are accused of committing crimes against humanity as hundreds of thousands of Rohingya women, men, and children have fled the country. Extreme violence and persecution in the western Rakhine State of Myanmar have caused more than a million Rohingya people, an ethnic minority, to flee their homes in search of a safe haven. Leaving almost all they own behind, the majority of those fleeing have crossed the border into Bangladesh. On this occasion the restaurant felt that it was an opportunity to show the duty of humanitarianism to help the devastated and unfortunate people of Rohingya.
Mr Miah managed to achieve both goals by not only raising £1,000 but also giving those who attended a really fun evening with the usual excellent food and service.
The money has already been sent to Bangladesh Association Cardiff of which delegates will be going to Bangladesh on the 12th January 2018 to build shelters and provide food, sanitation and clean water for the Rohingya people.
Mr. Miah and his family who have lived in Monmouth for 27 years, have been heavily involved in many community activities and charities, having previously raised money for the Bangladesh Flood Victims, Asian Tsunami Disaster, Haiti Disaster, Bangladesh Cyclone Appeal, Pakistan Flood Appeal, The Attik, Saint Briavels Centre for Children, Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation, Monmouth Visually Impaired Club (Monvic), Hands Around the World, Monmouth Round Table, Monmouth Cricket Club, Monmouth Rowing Club, Monmouth Young Rugby Club, Monmouth Mayor’s Funds and local schools
