SIR,
I am pleased to read in your article (Beacon 9th February) that common sense has prevailed and that the foolish proposal to reduce the road width between Agincourt Street and St John Street to a width of three metres has been cancelled.
However, it appears that Monmouthshire County Council is still intending to meddle with this at the junction of Monnow Street and Agincourt Square "in the context of a wider regeneration project".
I consider that the council tax payers of Monmouthshire are entitled to know the cost of the aborted plan, including the consultants fees.
Here, on The Narth, I have complained several times about the deplorable state of Narth Lane, and part of School Lane, with it's numerous pot holes and crumbling surface.
Possibly some of the finance wasted on this 'pinchpoint' exercise could have been better spent repairing our lanes.
Perhaps Mr Roger Hoggins, head of infrastructure and sustainability would care to give as all some figures.
Frank Kemp
(The Narth)
