RACING returned to Monmouth on 11th June with harness races held on Vauxhall Show Fields.
It was the first time in more than 80 years that racing of any sort has occurred in Monmouth.
Racing is believed to have taken place in Monmouth from as early as 1734.
While it was not races held at Vauxhall Show Fields, it was the last location used for racing in Monmouth.
The public turned out in the good conditions to watch the 14 race card where £14,750 of prize money was available.
There was plenty of variety on the day with races for two and three-year-olds and maiden and novice races among the events.
There were 118 horses scheduled to race so competition was tight .
However the eventual winners were able to pull though including Rockin Mambo whose team is pictured to the right.
