MONMOUTHSHIRE Show took place on Sunday August 17 offering a wide variety of stalls, entertainment and a lively atmosphere.
This year the show was under new chairmanship of Mrs S. Harris.
As a reporter there I really enjoyed going to the show, and as someone who has never been before I was really taken back by everything which was on offer.
The show took place at Monmouthshire Show ground, not far from Monmouth town centre, it offers 96 acres of land with a beautiful backdrop of nature in its beauty.
Monnow Marquees was the main sponsor of the show this year along with so many other local businesses.
The was a lot of entertainment at the show ground including many rounds of scurry driving, a dog and duck display, Icelandic horses, mini pony show, shearing demonstrations and much more.
Following on to a vast selection of stalls, music and food and refreshments.
Dylan Allman from Hedgehog Aware said: “Our stall is celebrating all our wonderful achievements our hedgehog project in the Wye Valley area, and we’ve had the hedgehog first response unit volunteers here today who have been talking about their work.
“We are also opening our new volunteer rescue centre called prickly patch which is happening in September/ October time so do keep an eye out for more opportunities to get involved.”
“I have been to Monmouthshire shows before, but it’s been a while since I have been to the last one, it’s probably 15/16 years ago, said a spokesperson at the event.
“It’s not as big now as it used to be, we haven’t really got all the way around yet, but we have had a look at the food hall, the stalls. Luckily the weather is nice.
“People seem to enjoy themselves here”
Another spokesperson at the show said: “I have been coming to the Monmouthshire show for the last three or four years. Initially I started coming here because my sister is in a rock choir.
“It is a fantastic day out and I love the craft stalls, I love all the clothes and the bags, the honey and the different crafts.
“I am looking forward to the Icelandic horses because I absolutely love horses and the vintage cars.”
The show had so much to offer covering a range of interests from photography, art, baking, beekeeping.
At the show there is the chance to try locally produced food and drink including local cider, ice cream, cookies, pastries and plenty more.
There was a craft marquee and a shopping mall selling all sorts of beautifully displayed crafts from people who have put a lot of time and effort into making a variety of pieces and besides the entertainments from the stages there was the bubble man and a circus workshop which added further exciting entertainment to the show ground.
The show was really well organised, and it brought people from across the community and further afield together on such a beautiful, sunny day.
