A Ghanian Doctor is reaching the end of a three month stay in Monmouth.
Dr Kwame Aidoo is in the town as part of a three month Commonwealth Professional Fellowship with Bees for Development.
Back home in Ghana, Kwame teaches Apiculture (beekeeping) in Ghana’s University of Cape Coast and researches bee pollination of crops.
A significant part of Kwame’s stay involves working with Bees for Development in Monmouth to establish a new branch of Bees for Development in Ghana, focussing on training farmers who grow fruit crops in sustainable beekeeping.
In particular, he hopes to educate and improve the process of beekeeping in Ghana, showcasing the contribution of sustainable beekeeping to the income and livelihoods of Ghanaian farmers.
Dr Aidoo has certainly been kept busy. “I’ve been working to teach and support the farmers by establishing the new branch of Bees for Development, while also working on consultation jobs.”
A beekeeper himself, Dr Aidoo has worked together with Bees for Development since studying in Cardiff for his Masters degree in 1991. Since then Dr Aidoo has been awarded a PhD in pollination biology.
He is now into his last month in Monmouth. “I am enjoying every bit of my stay in Monmouth” said Dr Aidoo.
